Intimacy with God: Stay in His Word

Posted in Everyday living, Faith, Fearless living, Fellowship, Spiritual Growth on Mar 26, 2020

1 Timothy 4:15 AMPC

Practice and cultivate and meditate upon these duties; throw yourself wholly into them [as your ministry], so that your progress may be evident to everybody.

Evidence comes when we throw ourselves into the ministry of the Word and the Spirit. Do you want to know God's heart? Check His word. Check what His Spirit is saying. He can never contradict Himself.

1 Corinthians 2:12 AMPC

Now we have not received the spirit [that belongs to] the world, but the [Holy] Spirit Who is from God, [given to us] that we might realize and comprehend and appreciate the gifts [of divine favor and blessing so freely and lavishly] bestowed on us by God.

Hebrews 12:2 AMPC

Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. He, for the joy [of obtaining the prize] that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

'Looking away from all that will distract'. Dear brothers and sisters look away from all that will distract, look away from the bills, the symptoms, the pain, the disappointment and discouragement. Look away from the failures.

How? You may ask. It starts in the mind. The truth is that the mind can never be left blank. To look away is simply to look at Christ by focusing on redemptive realities. For instance, if your body is being plagued with symptoms, that's a distraction...the enemy’s aim is to take your focus away from Christ.

In the book of Numbers, the Israelites had sinned. God let the fiery snakes into their camp and they were bitten. When they cried out, He told Moses to lift up the bronze serpent. That image was significant... Bronze represents fire and the snake represents sin. It meant that God's fiery judgement had come upon their sins. And God said to them if you look at the lifted Bronze Serpent you will live.

Have you ever imagined what it would take to look away from the close biting snakes and look up to something that doesn't seem real? Does it sometimes look like your situation is more real than the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross?

Jesus said in John 3:14-15 AMPC

And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert [on a pole], so must [so it is necessary that] the Son of Man be lifted up [on the cross] In order that everyone who believes in Him [who cleaves to Him, trusts Him, and relies on Him] may not perish, but have eternal life and [actually] live forever!

The same way the serpent was lifted up, Jesus was lifted and anyone who looks at Jesus, who believes in Him will live.

Do you want life in your relationship? Look! You want life in your finances? Look! In your career? Look! The Bible says 'Looking away from distractions...' That's because there are distractions. The issues you are facing are only a distraction.

Now when you look, you will hear instructions. These instructions are the answer. Obey! Look away and look unto Jesus.
